Gujarati Glyphs

02 — Challenge

Gujarati numerals carry a lot of curve and calligraphic history. Reducing them to a geometric skeleton risked losing the thing that makes them legible — and personal.

03 — Approach

I drew each numeral on a shared geometric grid in a Regular and Bold weight, keeping the counters and turns of the original forms while stripping the curves. Then I used my mom's old bandhani sari as the printing surface, so every stroke carries the tie-dye grid of the fabric and shifts in colour across the set.

04 — Outcome

A ten-glyph numeral system in two weights, plus a printed edition where the digits are built entirely from bandhani texture — a type specimen that is also a family object.
